Empowered By Fire

I watched in horror as I saw the flames lapping above my new clinic that I had painstakingly built.  (Okay, that the contractor and tradesmen painstakingly built.)  The fire was put out quickly, but the water damage that was to seep through was another matter.  The clinic was open just six days before this fire and once again, we had to rebuild.  Bad luck, bad karma, why me?  I was upset and tried to make meaning of it but couldn’t find an answer.

Sometimes in life we need an unpleasant incident to remind us of all the good around us.  The result -- gratitude.  I am grateful that no one was hurt, no equipment damaged, drywall can be replaced, kindness still resounds in people and there’s always insurance!  This hurdle has essentially given me more determination and more confidence.

I like to run when I’m stressed.  I ran a lot this past month.  When life throws you a curve ball, cry, yell, vent, have a drink – do whatever you have to do initially but remember to keep moving.  For me, I run.  (I did all of the above first, of course.)  After the initial ten minutes of “Geez, my legs feel like lead!”, there’s nothing like the feeling of the release of your endorphins and enkephalins (your body’s natural pain killers) to give you the high that makes you forget whatever concerns you have on your mind.  After twenty minutes into a run, I feel like I am invincible and nothing can stop me.

It’s important to find that physical activity that gives you your natural “high” and if you haven’t found it yet, give running a try.  But like any new sport, start slowly and build up.  Anything daunting in life can be tackled if you break it down into manageable steps.

The clinic is re-opening for business Tuesday February 12th, 2013 and will be hosting an Open House Thursday February 21st, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:30pm.

Drop by and say hello, who knows what path it’ll lead to!
