Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the practice of inserting very fine, sterile needles into specific points in the body. There are two approaches to acupuncture, which sometimes overlap. Traditional Chinese acupuncture is based on a belief that the needles stimulate Qi (energy flow) in the body. Western medical or anatomical acupuncture adapts the traditional Chinese approach and combines the knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology to reason how acupuncture is used as a treatment. The latter is the approach we use at Empower Physiotherapy. Acupuncture is used to control pain, resolve inflammation, provide regeneration, restore physical function and normalize nervous system function. Acupuncture is most effective when used in combination with exercise therapy and other physiotherapy treatments.
